[ okay but what are the chances of shoma wandering through and coming across this man being facedown on the ground somewhere.
the truth of the matter is, he really is sort of aimlessly wandering the ship with roboji rolling behind him on its own. he's pretty deep in thought, not only because of everything that's occurred over the weekend but because of a few conversations he's had with people already.
scien in particular truly has left him with a lot of complex feelings and thoughts (and dahut, to an extent), and it's things he really didn't expect himself to think too hard about upon arriving here. yet here he is. thinking about them.
it's why he's not paying attention to where he's walking, which means either one of two things. he's either going to nearly crash right into scien in his wanderings, or roboji's going to accidentally bonk into him with its wheel. dealer's choice. ]
[honestly so fucking high also me copypasting a note into my threads bc it's going in all of them: scien's changed back into his rumpled outfit except it's probably more obvious than ever than he doesn't have his left arm because the sleeve is just floppily trailing next to him. on that sleeve, there is a new bloodstain on it like it was used to wipe something. help!
but based on my coin flip, roboji is the winner!! bonk goes the wheel and the scien-shaped lump on thee floor just makes a noise that sounds like a grumble. hey]
[well, you're probably minding your own business, having a little walk throughout the ship.
and then it hits! with your next breath, there is a sudden, debilitating pain that rattles throughout your system. it starts in your chest and then spreads throughout your body, setting every nerve aflame as though every inch of you is being stabbed. the pain is constant, no alleviation, just a new burst of it with every breath you take.
and then the flicker disappears.
and scien is about three feet away, playing tetris on his I.R.I.S. one-handed. ]
anyway yeah! he was absolutely minding his own business because that's what shoma does, and he's with roboji just kind of wandering and once again getting the lay of the land.
and then it hits. the debilitating pain comes on suddenly, and the way it spreads quickly but slowly all at once, all-encompassing, is a lot to handle. it forces shoma to stop, a hand braced on the wall and the other up to the center of his chest to try and get it to stop? what the fuck!
scien might just be playing tetris with one hand, but he might find there's something else infiltrating his senses. panic, first. followed by...anger, actually, and followed by frustration and...almost a faint flicker of acceptance of the pain before everything disappears.
it means shoma's staying still and he pauses to just look at scien without saying a word. what! the! fuck! he's not actually surprised he didn't react at all, but god! ]
well his tetris score immediately pauses as soon as those emotions come seeping into his system. his eyebrows narrow as they come in, stronger and stronger, but what shoma feels in return might be—odd? the way that the processing of those emotions stall when they get too strong, and then there is a zip of silence before they disappear as though they've been reset. erased before they can completely manifest.
well if shoma shows up in the observation deck, there's scien. for once, he's up. no longer lounging on whatever the closest surface is, instead moving to inspect the different doors and vents that might be in the area. he's more unkempt than usual, his usual braid nowhere to be found, clothes even more rumpled as if no one's bothered to fix him. or no one's around to anymore. even then, his expression seems as unbothered as always except -
once getting close enough to him, there are those broken, not-quite right emotions are at play again. normally, any type of feeling coming from him would be a rare thing. but right now they seem to be playing out without his permission. bewilderment, dissatisfaction, frustration, and this slow, building sense of anger. as with earlier in the week when he felt it from someone else, every time that feeling grows too strong it seems to stall and suddenly disappear—
but this time it comes back. a loop of slow-building fury. because this time, that strong, burdensome feeling is his own. it plays in the background, grinding away at all other feelings.
when footsteps approach, he's direct, gaze sharp and message to the point:]
[ the way i can feel you ragetyping from all the way over here.
anyway yeah he actually does come up to the observation deck! he's standing in the doorway with roboji, watching scien for a moment and and keeping out of emotional range for a bit. not that his vibes are even really noticeable. it's calm and neutral, and eventually he does approach a little closer.
and is blasted by sudden emotions skewed left, and he's used to it a little by now, knowing how the relivers feel things and process them, and when they suddenly disappear and its fury there's a soft flicker of concern.
so he's here. he's also in a black bomber jacket that is. extremely big on him, the arms baggy and half-hiding an orange css eudora patch and it's hard to put his hands in his pockets when they're buried in fabric. ]
Still checking. [ taciturn. he can do that. ] There're, like, forcefields on a few of the rooms. Warm to the touch, impossible to get through. And last night everything was locked down and blocked. Senior crew couldn't get the override commands to stick.
horizontal again i'm sorry this man is really splayed out on the ground looking at the ceiling. his emotions are still in that tight little box bundle, but the strongest one that leaks through is this sense of being lost.]
Yes. I—
[he's cut off, and there's this sudden wave of violence that hits. he blinks a few times, as if taken off guard by the emotion, before it ebbs away]
anyway he hates emotion sharing! he immediately shifts in a guarded stance like that's going to protect him, but he also blinks when it fades away and he settles down.
the "lost" emotion is what he chooses to focus on again...so he has a seat outside of the room to look at him. ]
[does the embed one singular time and never again just trust me.
anyway at some point after paint, where pixel shu is trying to brush it off of him, he will start to glitch vaguely back into a more familiar asshole.
scien stands there, still covered in paint especially around his face, though he makes a vague humming noise once he briefly sees himself. he snaps to get shoma's attention. though he does turn back to shu after, sorry. this glitching is going to be in and out but stated otherwise, assume he looks like pixelated shu.]
[ the ironman suit has been dismantled post-paint, and shoma's back to...well. his avatar, at least. 18 with kitty ears and minding his own business when suddenly pixel-shu is snapping. wait, no, that's--
well. even if he thought he was hallucinating there is literally only one person on this ship who'd call him brat. ]
Told you, I don't give up on things. [ this is much funnier now that he knows who this is. ] ...how are you here?
It's complicated and I haven't had much time to investigate.
[he had to try to outbid a child and then get shot in the face by a paint sniper]
Though I have reason to believe it's temporary. I got your mail. I don't want to waste characters in my reply letter, so just know Dahut said a bunch of sappy stuff about you. He's around here somewhere.
[scien is nosily going through the cabinets like he's trying to figure out what he's working with.... shortage of doctors on the ship so scien will often be one in the worst case scenarios]
I've told Dahut to prepare internship paperwork for the Institute, should you find yourself interested.
[ ah. he does look a little surprised even while he's watching scien browse. ]
It's an honor. [ it's a dry comment, but he is actually touched. ] I can't say I haven't kept my options open lately. Depending on how things turn out.
but auction items are unlocked :) which means that in the stasis bay, where scien had been spending a solid amount of his time, he's looking at the now glowing, active, awake reliver machine. it thrums with a foreboding energy and scien is at one of the monitors, running a diagnostics check. when shoma walks in, scien looks up, and then gives open permission]
[ honestly, this is probably one of the best things that's happened to him in the last 24 hours. so he wanders into the stasis bay, slowly approaching the machine kind of the same way you'd expect someone to enter a church. there's awe and respect and a bit of silent contemplation as he gets closer, eyes sweeping over the monitors and observing the overall structure. ]
You already know this, but the craftsmanship's incredible. [ this is just a fact. ] Everything's working the way it should?
[ he does not fully trust this ship, so it's good to check it didn't get fucked up. ]
[shoma is soooooo cute. scien will continue to let the diagnostics screen run so that all parts of the system are checked, but it's capable of running the test without his attention. so he'll just tilt his head to watch shoma, vaguely amused]
Thus far, yes. Though I'll probably running it tomorrow so we'll see then if everything operates properly.
[ wow. what a fuckin' day. he's kind of wired still because everything was...a lot. and a lot of things happened and he's been counting down the days until everything comes to a head and they finish this thing off, but now it's just...quiet.
he is away he should wait for scien to come find him so he can do the last memory backup, but he's not exactly feeling up to being alone with his own thoughts right now so he goes to seek the man out himself. when he does find him, he's casual in his approach. assigns us observation deck for now, we can move. ]
I wasn't entirely sure how today would turn out, but I can't say the results were terrible.
scien is at the observation deck but he's still working because of course he is. he's focusing on something on his IRIS, but he will look up and close the app when shoma approaches him to talk]
The explosions were cathartic.
[he'll agree with that]
How does it feel, knowing that this is the end of a chapter?
[ the look on his face says he agrees. everyone was tired and annoyed at the end that blowing shit up was a great option. the question makes him pause slightly though. ]
...I suppose it should feel gratifying. We set out to do something, and we managed to accomplish a lot of what we meant to. Things are safe, everyone's back, and the threat's gone. [ but. ] I think it feels slightly unfinished though.

I can’t remember the last time I slept in a bed. It’d probably be more uncomfortable now.
[he yawns and moves to get up, flicking his I.R.I.S. to activate]
Forty-three minutes… that’s enough.
