[ ...he catches that stray thought and yeah, that does track with what he's gathered about the two of them. ]
Which means that something could have easily still overwhelmed him. [ there's a pause. ] If asking these questions now isn't helpful, I get it. But I want to go into tomorrow as prepared as possible when we inevitably have to figure things out ourselves.
I only expect I will have to answer them again tomorrow, as the person who knew Dahut before arriving.
I have my own questions... but I don't think anything but an autopsy and investigation I conduct myself will be enough.
[it's nothing against shoma, it's just... if there's nothing to report about the ship, scien doesn't expect anyone but whoever did the damn thing to give him answers]
...no, I get that. [ un...for...tunately. the vibe is that he gets that a little too deeply, and it's why he pauses for a moment before he takes a step back and nods. ]
If I hear anything else before then, you'll be the first to know. And if I get a response from the crew, you'll know.
"amalthea's written up an explanation that i'm going to share with you - sorry, we're in and out as we try to figure out what the hell is going on. the shields are up until tomorrow, either because we've gotten an answer of what happened to dahut or because we're going to be roping in you guys. io's going to be trying to figure out what happened to mr. pearce, because his death happened before we were all unconscious and dahut's was after. we don't have a protocol for this so we're flying by the seat of our pants right now.
Normally, Nut & Bolt ships will start a lockdown to scan for abnormalities during a lengthy space jump. Abnormalities are rare, but scans are necessary. The lockdown itself keeps certain features online, some stay offline to siphon energy to necessary parts. Lockdown lasts until the morning of the next day and can be prolonged with full permissions.
The one we had experienced is not the norm. It was unscheduled and we did not make a space jump. Through deduction, it means that it was a malfunction or that there was an abnormality found within the ship.
While we were stuck in different areas without communication, we attempted an override command, but it had failed. It would seem that two met their demise sometime between the lockdown and when we all woke up from being incapacitated. It is normally meant to sedate the threat. Senior crew are incapacitated later and wake earlier than junior crew, so they are expected to incarcerate or expel it.
For now, we have ejected everyone who had stayed in suspicious areas, then locked those areas to preserve the scene with cryofreeze to investigate later. The shields will prevent any warmth or heat from interacting with anything found within."

[especially if I was there is the stray thought, coupled with a brief, renewed spike of anger]
Yes, and no. We get enough assassins that it's not a wholly unfamiliar situation to him... but he's still not particularly physically strong.
