Consider it another thing I've never really put a ton of thought into lately. [ hah. ] But it can't hurt. I'm at least past the point where I have to second-guess if people are just humoring me. And...we have one more place to land and probably a few more places to unlock on this ship. Who knows what kind of opportunities we'll have?
Would you believe me if I said I used to be an extrovert? [ it's debatable if he's serious, but the tone implies it's a little more likely than he may think. ]
But I'm with you. So...let's go over it together. What else should we try to do and make the most of this weekend?
[ what with the genetic engineering... of course that would change someone. ]
Almost two months. [ which sounds like less time than it's felt. funny how he didn't think it would bother him, but maybe being closer to the people who are lost does that to you. ] And they definitely deserve one.
Then let's plan for one. [ easy. ] I mean I'll probably leave the logistics to people like you and Dahut but at this point what's stopping us? Better to do it early before things get really weird again.
[ well the following day there is flesh all over the ship but still. ]
It's plenty big enough. And making customizations is pretty straightforward, we were able to get really detailed with stuff on Thursday. The place already provides food and drinks anyway. It'd almost be stupid not to use it again.
You know, now that we're talking about it, I'm a little surprised that we never did before, after it showed up. It's literally made for it, if you use it the right way.
It unlocked the same week we were stationed at Rodin, right? We probably didn't think too much about it because everything on that planet was so busy already.
True. Rodin's kind of a party all on its own, and then they had that whole VR setup... Man, I kind of wish we had something like that back home. It's never that intense.
That makes two of us. Might be something I look into when I get back, start delving more into that side of things. I don't have that much experience with VR, but if it's just programming... [ he shrugs. ]
But too bad we also can't just go back to Rodin now that everybody's back.
It would be a really cool project and I'd definitely have to come and visit if you got to working. Maybe it'd be even easier than programming robots...? It's just overlaying stuff onto reality, right?
[ he doesn't know a damn thing about this stuff. useless. ]
Mm... I think we have to make sure the place is safe first, though.
[ if it's even still there, he doesn't add. who even knows with this ship, especially with all that stuff about digestion... ]
It's a little more complex than that, but you're not wrong. Depending on the intensity of the simulation it can't be that much harder. I'm still learning more about programming, but it's interesting to learn. And I'm about to have a lot of time on my hands again anyway if I don't find a job. Maybe I can make a new VR system and make money that way.
[ but...hum. ]
...it'd be so much easier if we could send messages to all of these planets, but communication's always been a little weird out here.
[ man, he kind of wishes shoma and akito could meet now. they'd probably have a great chat about this stuff. ]
I bet you could. You seem like you'd learn fast, even if it is complicated. You could probably do the same with your robots, if you wanted - though I get it if you'd want to just keep that to yourself.
Yeah... We'd probably have to ask the senior crew to give it a shot, right? They're the ones who were talking to them all before.
Yeah, probably. [ he's not exactly shy about agreeing he's smart, but he also doesn't always bring it up. ] Everything I told you before was true. I started learning early...Roboji was built about a week before we got here, but his predecessor was something I started working on when I was about eleven or twelve and finished in a few months. Knowing how it works and how everything connects is a pretty big part of technology. [ but he shrugs. ] You mean selling them? I don't know if they're that special yet. But maybe someday.
Anyway there's nothing wrong with asking. At this rate I think all we can do is keep asking things and figuring out where to go from there.
...That fast? Man, there's really no way I'd be able to keep up with you. [ he has such smart friends uwaaah. ] Seriously, though, I think if you put your mind to it, you'll make it work, one way or another.
[ money situation aside. ]
That's all we've got until we land again... We're supposed to be hitting the company's hub next, right? I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit worried about it.
I work fast but I also like to work until I finish stuff. [ sometimes you hyperfocus. ] Besides, consider us even. It's not like I've got the kind of talent you do. But...you're right. I'll give it some more thought when we get back and I know what I'm working with.
[ sips his boba thoughtfully... ]
Dude, I'm kind of worried, too. We've heard about Nut & Bolt and we know that it's entirely possible that's not even who we've really been working for, but nothing's guaranteed. For all we know we might be flying right into a trap somehow.
I understand. I'm the same way when I'm trying to nail a song down. But yeah... definitely a later problem.
[ they have more pressing matters, like nut & bolt. ]
Not that we can stop it, but that's exactly what I've been thinking. But I think that all we can really do is just... try to be prepared, right? As much as we can be. As long as we're careful and don't do anything too reckless, maybe we'll find what we need to fix all this.
[ there's a nod. a later problem. they can talk about aspirations for home when they, you know, save their homes. ]
Unless there's a way to somehow steer the ship entirely off-course, no. We're pretty stuck. It sucks but I think we're gonna have to keep our heads down for at least the first day so we don't draw attention. Give us a chance to look around on our own and investigate stuff. See what information we can gather for ourselves to figure it out. But...with all of us back, it might be harder to keep everybody in line.

[ voice light, gently teasing. ]
I'll worry about the new places once we get there. For now... I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything, in case it does go bad again fast.

But I'm with you. So...let's go over it together. What else should we try to do and make the most of this weekend?

I was talking to Dahut-san and we agreed that it'd be nice to have one more party with everyone.

A party sounds pretty fun. It's been a really long time since all of us have been together, right? The mood's about right for it anyway.
