[ hi it's monday! and they're out on the planet today at the docks. shoma's looking out to the water, and he turns to look up at kazuki with a grin.
also, i suppose since it's notable, it appears that the metal casing around his arm has finally been removed and he has his regular arm back and healed. ]
How do you feel about sailing? We should take a boat and explore.
Exactly. It can't be that hard to make a boat work. We'll be fine. [ boat? boat. self-guided tour time!
but he does look at his arm and shrugs. ]
A lot of it was getting the nerve to ask Io to remove the casing since it was kind of...attached. But it went fine and it healed okay last night, so I can't complain.
Ah... I didn't know. [ he'd meant to ask but it's also a little awkward? whatever, shoma's healed, it's fine. ] Glad it worked out. You had that thing for so long... must be nice to be free of it.
It's weird. This place seems really peaceful in comparison to some of the others, like they've never seen a storm in their life. So we're in good shape. [ he approaches a free boat and immediately hops into it. but he does grin slightly at that. ]
It's fine. I...didn't really talk about it much because I knew it was sort of dumb to be so anxious about removing it. [ sort of. sometimes you just freak out at the idea of anyone doing anything to your body when you're unaware, kind of like sometimes you cough up a few olive petals suddenly that get shoved into your pocket. no. no flowers. ] But it worked out and I can actually use my arm again without accounting for extra bulk. It definitely makes a lot of my work way easier. [ wiggles his fingers. smaller digits for refined movements. ]
[ he says, following without a trace of hesitation. ]
I mean, if it was attached, then who wouldn't be a little freaked out? [ especially considering shoma's past. ] I can imagine. Kind of like me now that I don't need gloves to play, huh? Thought I guess your work takes a lot more finesse.
Hey, I'm not gonna be the one to jinx anything. Plus...we kinda had a win today. I'm taking that good luck and applying it to the rest of the week. [ is that how that works? regardless, once they're in the boat he really is taking a few moments to assess it as he figures out all of the switches and buttons and steering mechanisms. they are not going to be moving for a few minutes. ]
Heh...yeah, that's fair enough. When we were in the anomaly itself, it was a replacement for my actual arm. I don't know how it got translated to that coming out, but it was...creepy. [ so he ignored it, yeah. but he perks up a little. ] I wouldn't say one or the other takes more finesse. It's not like they both don't take precision. [ me realizing their dexterity is actually the same. ] But yeah pretty much exactly like that. I've been able to do some bigger things, and luckily there was stuff I could do with one hand, but having two makes it much easier and faster.
Me either. Bringing people back is way out of my realm of expertise. [ he's crouched a little to check other switches, but the boat does kick on finally. progress! it's also easier for him to do this and talk without facing him for a second. ]
Yeah. I kinda figured that if I didn't do it yesterday, it wouldn't get done at all, probably. But we're in good shape. [ but he hums a little. ] It's made it way easier to keep finetuning him. I've almost completely adjusted his hands again without even needing other parts. I could've probably fixed it sooner if I'd just asked but...figured it was good practice. Eventually I'll have to bring him out planet-side to test his waterproofability, but that's another day.
Saaaame. I think Mistral-san can do it, but I'd be lying if I said I understood it. Magic's never going to be my forte.
[ he nods along because this is pretty nice to hear, actually. ]
Doesn't hurt to get practice in. Why not today, though? Sounds like we're going to be busy tomorrow, and then Wednesday is the whole... work thing, if anyone even does that at this point.
[ okay well there's a Look because what do you mean temenos can just revive the dead?! he's not going to question it. none of them have to understand it. we are simply going to steer this boat and begin a nice little cruise across the planet. or at least as far as they can go. ]
...honestly, no reason. I guess I just wanted today to be around actual people? [ a novelty still. ] Yuri's meeting shouldn't take all day and I still have a ton of hours in the evening that I can use. After last week I'd be surprised if any of us did the work.
[ unless the locals are in direct danger. that might be his own thing that'd get him to act. ]
[ just a shrug at that Look. what do you expect him to say here. ]
Fair enough, but you could do that anytime you wanted, too. [ he's not about to tell shoma what to do, though. ] I can't believe I was right striking all along. I only kept doing it in case they sent us more stuff from home, but what I'm concerned about is the "termination" thing, you know?
Being an extrovert isn't in my nature, you know that. [ sometimes wanting to be around people is a build-up. a process. something that must be done in steps. ] But you're right. We maybe should've considered that sooner, but it escalated really fast last week.
I know, I know. [ waves hand whatever it's fine. everyone at their own pace. ] Because the ship got mad at us for trying to stay longer on Rodin, I guess. It's been acting up more since then.
Yeah...those weird vines or whatever. The continuing theme really has been "do not resist" and it's starting to make itself hard to ignore. [ the boat moves... ]
Nobody's tried to stay off-ship since then, have they?
It's getting more aggressive... Though I think the vines are still the only direct action it's taken so far. I haven't heard about anyone staying off-ship since, but who can blame us for that?
Yeah...I can't blame anybody for complying after that either. None of us could have predicted it, and we don't know if it'll amplify even worse now that it knows we're starting to fight back. [ ... ] Whatever it is.
I don't know if the ship itself is a creature. I've been thinking it's more like a vessel for something else that attached to it. The Eudora's been in operation for a while. But that answer's not so great either.
That makes two of us. [ but they are on the ocean right now...so it's okay. ] At least this ship's not gonna betray us. It's a good break so I can think back over everything else we already know.
[ the answer is to steal a boat and sail away from the eudora... ]
To be honest? I didn't really think I was either. [ this was whimsy and time away from his own earth, really. ] But you're not wrong. Being here's been kind of a cool opportunity to try different things, even if I'm not good at all of them.
Yeah. I had this conversation with someone a little while ago, too. I keep finding new things I want to learn and try and this place actually gives me a chance to, even if the exchange isn't great. [ the boat turns to head around the little island. ] But I'll hold onto the good things. Supposedly there's good and bad in everything.
w6 monday

[ too bad sidon isn't here. he does give shoma's arm a curious look, though. ]
Didn't think an arm would take that long to heal in a place like this.

[ maybe it does work that way. who is kazuki to argue?
that makes him wince. ] Yikes... I'd be bothered by it, too, if I were in your shoes. At least you don't have to deal with it anymore.
I bet Roboji's happier to have you back in shape, too, huh? Did you ever get his hands fixed up?

It's a nice change from the ship, in my opinion. And the fresh air doesn't hurt.
I can't say I'm glad for everything here, but that's definitely one of the good parts about it.
