that's me, not him, but his concern just kind of intensifies. ]
I think "kind of" is an understatement. I doubt any of us could have predicted what would've happened when we got sent to watch. [ ...he won't directly say it, but. ] I think everybody's having a hard time right now. It threw everybody off to have to watch the whole thing.
A lot of people have come to check on me, but... I think this kind of stuff is harder on the adults than it is on us. But they sure try not to show it...
[ with, like, middling success. some are pretty obvious about their feelings. ]
You're not wrong. [ about. like. any of that. ] I'm glad people are checking on you, but I think a lot of them are holding back because they don't want to fall apart in front of people that might not be holding it together so well. Like they're forgetting this is going to be hard for everyone. Iiii don't really know what to do about that yet either. Sometimes people still don't tell me the full truth about how they feel or what they're thinking.
[ which is annoying. ]
But we're starting a whole new cycle tomorrow. It's worth knowing where people stand, I guess.
This thing that's driving people to do terrible things... whether it's galactic storms or nanites or whatever, it still... doesn't really come out of nowhere, right? I wonder if there's any way we could pick up on whether somebody's nearing a breaking point, and prevent them from getting worse...
There has to be. People...have been reporting that they feel really, really angry right before they lash out and hurt someone. So if we could watch for signs of unease, that might help? [ ... ] When we were gone, one of the things we experienced was people turning into monsters because of their negative feelings. We had to calm them down or let them run themselves down before they changed back.
I'm not saying we try to keep everyone positive and hope that stops this thing from triggering, but I wonder if at least trying to keep things level will give us a direction and people to watch.
Believe it or not those are probably two of the best things we can have right now. We're gonna need people to hold it together while we're solving this. [ he tilts his head. ] Are you used to being the moral support for the people you were traveling with?
Sometimes, yeah! A lot of them are, like, kind of pathetic [ luke ], and they get depressed super easily [ luke ]... so somebody's gotta keep them focused on the tasks ahead!
Is he? [ he thinks about this. ] I've only really talked to him a couple of times, but never about anything too deep. But you've known him for a lot longer, so you probably know him pretty well.

... I'm kind of worried about everyone, to be honest.

...the only way we're going to get through this is checking on each other, I think. I'm not so great at it, but...I'm getting worried, too.

Well, I am good at giving moral support... and I've got pretty good observation skills, too. So I'll do my best!

But what about you? You actually let people support you the same way, right?

[ a dubious look crosses her face. ]
Okay, well, Guy's pretty good at saying the right thing at the right time... so there's that.
