[ he's sitting here in the medbay and he's extremely spooked about this chain of events for today, but he does look up when rosamund enters and gives her a slightly and equally uncomfortable smile. ]
...you didn't have to do that. [ but it's a nice thought? ] Sorry. That...must've been really alarming for you guys. [ he says this but he's probably still beaten up so it's fine. ]
Oh, please. Stop worrying about everyone else, none of us got spat out of a movie screen.
[Why must this also be a recurring thing?
She moves in, taking a seat at his side and passing the goodies over.]
I wasn't sure what you'd like so I got a variety. And I thought about one of those...um. Game videos, but I was even less sure about those, so I hope you don't mind some old fashioned entertainment.
Unless there's one you'd like? I can go grab it, right away, it's no trouble at all.
[ that's fair. he seems to consider this before nodding. ]
Point taken. [ he takes everything from her, prosthetic hand bending a little awkwardly to grip but still doing his best. ] Between you and me, I kind of like books better anyway.
[ he likes video games too obviously because of the design but...books were easier to afford and he is a nerd, so this suits him fine. ]
[ there's a moment he watches her, curiosity in his expression as he seems to read her face. ]
...Rosamund, you don't...have to do that either. [ a gentle note. ] I'm not a kid. You don't have to try and stay completely positive. [ he can imagine that it's worrisome for literally all of them by now. they've been here too long, now, to not care about other people. ]
Then sort of smooths out by way of shrinking in. Her shoulders tuck closer to her chest, her head bows, and her eyes stick to the other wall. More truthful to the teenager she is than the princess she was. The uneasy smile is all that remains.]
Sorry. I don't think of you as a child, Shoma. I just...I don't like how little there is to be done for you. Any of you.
It's very frightening, to know that anyone could disappear at any time.
...no, I get it. I'm kind of freaked out by that, too. It feels like no matter how many preparations we manage to take we're still not going to be able to fully prepare or stop or fix everything that happens. I thought we'd get some kind of warning before we left, but that didn't happen. And we know how Thursday nights are. It's...hard to have to accept this.
It is hard. But, it's what we have to do. [She reaches forward, gingerly tearing the edge off the package of cookies.]
And that's the way life always is. And that's a part of how it always will be. There are the things we can control and the things that we can't. Right now, there's things affecting the ship that we don't know about. But that might not always be the case. Maybe we'll find more answers soon.
[She withdraws two cookies and offers him the first.]
For now, I think... it's best we prepare ourselves. At least in our hearts. There's always going to be times of shadow, but times of light will come, too. Nothing can stay one way forever. And nothing should.
Are you...used to giving kind of motivational speeches? [ he seems faintly amused by this even though he doesn't necessarily disagree with anything she said. ] I think looking at it that way is going to be the only way any of us are going to make progress here and not fall in the trap I think the ship's trying to push us into. We've been getting more answers every week, and even if it's not helping complete the whole puzzle yet it's more than we had before.
[ he's just breaking the cookie in half. ]
I just kind of wish that light period or whatever you'd call it would come for us sooner. People are scared and people are losing patience, and I don't always know what to do with that.
I don't know. I guess I'm used to fishing for morals. And I was a princess.
[Is. Was. Neither here nor there in the vacuum of space. She takes a nibble of her own cookie, as delicate as the rest of her.]
I don't quite know either. But I know being with people helps? Even if you're scared to lose them, or you do at some point, it's never a waste to put your time into someone.
[And yes pursue the mystery, solve the riddle, etc etc etc. They can get there. And he's so very clever, even outside of his age, he can handle so much more than many adults could. Just an exceptional person all around.
Speaking of handling things—]
Are you still hurt, by the way? What happened in there? [She cants her head curiously.] I heard you went to a casino.
[ there's a tilt of his head. right. princess or no, he does think that's maybe just a part of who rosamund is. it's admirable in its own way. ]
I think a lot of people would agree with you. [ the implication being that shoma himself is trying to decide if he would also agree. normally he'd be the type to isolate himself when things like this happen. he's used to it. he's used to taking care of himself or only allowing a small number of people close, but...sometimes things happen that make you have to rearrange your entire thought process. being with people is a double-edged sword because the support is wanted, but it gives people a chance to use it against you later.
he is aware that's kind of an insane way of thinking, so he doesn't say so. ] Considering we're on our own and it's just us, I wouldn't call it a waste. It's just about knowing which people need a little more help to be with people.
[ he drops the subject though when she continues. ]
I'm okay. I healed enough for now. [ he's not bleeding anymore at least, and a lot of his wounds are closed off even if bandaged to ensure they don't rip open. he does still have what looks like a prosthetic arm though that he seems to be ignoring. ] It's where we started out, yeah. Did the others tell you much about it?

That so? I like them too. [She nods, a bit overbright.] I'm so glad that you're feeling up to chatting Shoma. We were all so worried.
