Looks like she hit the nail on the head too hard. She can't help meeting that flash of grief with frantic regret. Then a little something more. How can she not feel for him? What an awful thing for anyone to live through, much less a kid of his age.
And yet it keeps happening to kids his age. Shoma couldn't be further in disposition than Ylfa or Pinocchio, but the suffering they've been forced to endure links them all the same.]
I think you're right. [She smiles softly to him, bare as it may be. None of her usual pep and sunniness. Maybe it's silly to mourn three people you'd known for a week next to someone who's nursing a lifelong loss, but she can't quite rouse herself out of it. She thinks of Dahut prone on the floor, overwhelmed with emotion, his head in her lap as she stroked his hair to sleep. She'd at least been able to help him calm down.
Shoma seems less than keen on touch though. She'll repress the urge to squeeze his shoulder, or sweep him into a hug. Sometimes those gestures made things worse instead of better.]
Maybe we should just be grateful that tomorrow is on the way.
